When the upper eyelid sits lower than normal, it can create a tired appearance and obstruct your vision. This condition, known as ptosis, occurs when the levator or Müller’s muscle responsible for lifting the eyelid becomes weakened or stretched. Ptosis repair is a surgical procedure that elevates the upper eyelid to a more natural position, restoring symmetry and function. At Align Aesthetics, ptosis repair is performed to support proper eyelid movement while helping you achieve your cosmetic goals.
What Is Ptosis Repair?
Ptosis repair is a procedure that strengthens or repositions the levator or Müller’s muscle that lifts the upper eyelid. Rather than removing excess skin alone, ptosis surgery focuses on correcting the underlying muscle responsible for eyelid elevation. All ptosis repair procedures at Align Aesthetics are performed by Dr. Lamise Rajjoub, whose expertise in eyelid anatomy corrects your concerns while preserving normal blinking and eye protection.
Benefits of Ptosis Repair
Ptosis repair can provide various improvements, including:
- Elevation of a drooping upper eyelid
- Improved symmetry between the eyes
- Enhanced field of vision when obstruction is present
- A more alert and rested appearance
- Restoration of proper eyelid function
Every surgical plan is customized based on the degree of drooping and the strength of the lifted muscle.
Candidates for Ptosis Repair
You may be a candidate for ptosis repair if one or both upper eyelids sit noticeably lower than the other or if you find yourself lifting your brows to improve vision. Some patients experience ptosis gradually, while others may notice it following prior surgery or injury. During your consultation, Dr. Rajjoub will evaluate your eyelid height, muscle function, and overall eye health to determine whether ptosis repair is appropriate for you. She will review all pre- and post-operative instructions in detail so you understand the procedure and recovery process.
The Ptosis Repair Procedure
Ptosis repair is performed in Align Aesthetics’ in-office surgical suite. The procedure approach depends on your anatomy and surgical goals. In the levator approach, a small incision is made along the natural crease of the upper eyelid to adjust the levator muscle and reposition the eyelid to the appropriate height. Alternatively, an internal “scarless” technique (Müller’s muscle resection) may be used, in which the eyelid is gently flipped and the correction is made from the inside. In both approaches, the goal is to restore proper eyelid function and symmetry. Patients are monitored briefly following surgery before returning home the same day.

MEET THE TEAMRecovery and Results
Mild swelling and bruising are common in the first one to two weeks after ptosis repair. Temporary tightness or dryness may also occur as the eyelid adjusts to its new position. Most patients gradually resume normal activities while following detailed aftercare guidance. As healing progresses, eyelid height stabilizes, and symmetry becomes more apparent. Final results continue to emerge over several weeks. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to ensure proper healing and optimal eyelid function.
